Low water pressure can do more than ruin your shower experience - it can also indicate a deeper issue within your plumbing. Read on as David Gray explores the four biggest reasons for low water pressure in your home.

How to Find the Source of Low Water Pressure

One of the most frustrating issues in home plumbing is low water pressure. From ruining your shower experience to making dishwashing nearly impossible, no one wants to deal with the inconvenience of poor pressure. Unfortunately, low water pressure often signals a deeper issue. Here are four of the most common reasons for low water pressure in your home:

  1. There is a clog in the pipes. Over time, deposits can build up in your water lines and stop water from flowing freely. If the pipes become too clogged, your faucets may only produce very limited water. This is a troublesome problem that can only be fixed by replacing the clogged water pipes.
  2. There is building up in your aerator or shower head. Lime deposits can build up in your shower head or in the aerators of your faucets.  These deposits will slowly restrict the flow that comes from these faucets.  A handy homeowner may be able to address this problem on their own.  Other times, you may need to call a qualified plumber.
  3. There is a leak in the plumbing. If you have pipes that are cracked or damaged, water may be escaping and causing you to lose water pressure.  The damage can be repaired in some circumstances.  But, depending on the damage, you may have to completely replace the pipes involved. While this can be a costly project, not only will your water pressure increase, but you will also benefit from a lower water bill.
